FUSE BOARDS
We advise older fuse boards / consumer units be replaced with a new 17th Edition fuse board.
The Fuse board / Consumer units should now be 17th Edition compliant to make it as safe as possible.
For your Fuse board / Consumer unit to be 17th Edition compliant, they must contain protective devices such as RCD’s and MCB’s or RCBO’s:
RCD (residual current device): for protection against electric shock and is designed for life protection. It will virtually eliminate the possibility of an electric shock.
MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker): for protection of the cables against overload and for detection of any short circuit.
RCBO (Residual Current Operated Circuit Breaker with integral Overcurrent Protection): does the jobs of both the RCD and MCB together.
